Vinaria Trophy 2026 for lifetime achievement goes to Willi Bründlmayer
Tribute to the “master of all classes”
On February 25, Vinaria, a monthly magazine highly regarded by wine lovers and experts alike, presented the trophy winners* from the past two years at the Austrian Parliament.
Willi Bründlmayer from Langenlois received the highest award that evening. He was honored with the rare Lifetime Achievement Trophy.
Editor-in-chief Peter Schleimer pointed out the strict criteria for the Lifetime Achievement Award: it goes to an ‘outstanding winemaker who has had a lasting impact on Austrian viticulture with consistent top performances across all categories.
Wine expert Willi Klinger echoed this sentiment at the end of his very personal laudatory speech when he stated: “No winery in Austria has managed to establish itself as a master of all classes to such an extent as Willi Bründlmayer, both vertically, meaning over decades, and horizontally, namely with white, red, and sweet wines and sparkling wines, consistently remaining at the top.”
Willi Bründlmayer expressed his gratitude and concluded with his characteristic cheerful modesty: "Actually, there is no such thing as a ‘lifetime achievement winemaker’: at almost all wineries, it is always an entire family, a great team, that works together throughout their lives to achieve such success.
*The Vinaria Trophies in gold, silver, and bronze are traditionally awarded to the winners of the major variety tastings. As confirmation of this prestigious award, Bründlmayer can once again celebrate trophies in various categories:
