Harvest begins – at the source of finest sparkling wine

September 5, 2025

The harvest has begun! We love these windy days with their cloud-strewn skies! Work is progressing briskly in the vineyards and in the cellar. We are making the most of this brief window of opportunity to harvest all the vineyards whose grapes are used for our Sekt base wines.

The presses are in full swing, and the whole grapes are brought in with the perfect degree of ripeness for sparkling wine production. We keep tasting the berries and the must flowing gently from the presses into the cellar. The overall impression so far makes us optimistic: as desired, there is still plenty of freshness, but also a wide variety of fruit flavours, sufficient physiological ripeness, and only subtle sweetness.

Today it is mainly red grapes that are being harvested: the charming Zweigelt, already hinting at cherry fruit, provides a perfect basis for Bründlmayer Brut Rose Reserve.  Our St Laurent, related to Pinot Noir, produces fresh, light and fragrant wines in the high altitudes of the Steinberg, whose aromas are reminiscent of forest and red berries. Delicate Pinot Noirs contribute greatly to the elegance and complexity.

Together, the three grape varieties will certainly produce a complex base wine this year, which will be blended with a small proportion of multi-year reserve wines next year and will have many months to mature after bottle fermentation.

Good sparkling wine takes time!
