Wine Diary

Liquid gold from the Ried Dechant

July 25, 2025

Our Bründlmayer organic vineyard honey is back! While our bees explored the floral diversity of the Ried Loiserberg during their last harvest, this year's organic vineyard honey comes from the renowned Ried Dechant.

This traditional vineyard, known for our Pinot Noir, not only offers first-class conditions for viticulture, but also a diverse, flowering environment in which our bee colonies feel particularly at home. Between vines, wild flowers, fruit trees and green embankments, they find everything they need for their work.

Since our bees primarily contribute to pollination and thus to the preservation of biodiversity, we only harvest a small portion of the precious honey. We also attach great importance to sustainability in further processing: after extraction, the wax is melted down, poured into sheets and returned to the hives as the basis for new honeycombs. We also return the honeycomb caps scraped off before extraction, with the honey still attached, to the bee colonies.

Our beekeeper Julia Nastl, who takes great care of the colonies, rates the 2025 honey harvest as very promising: The combination of lush vegetation, regular rainfall and sunny periods with good flying weather has resulted in a rich harvest.

From the beginning of September, our freshly extracted organic vineyard honey will be available in our online shop under the heading ‘From the vineyards’. Quantities are limited, so first come, first served!
