Wine Diary

Patchwork in white and rosé

September 19, 2025

The variable autumn weather of the past week did not stop us, apart from a few brief interruptions. At the weekend, nature gave us a short break, which we gladly accepted. Now summer is back! Sunny, warm days are accelerating the ripening process, and we will soon start with the early First Growths. We have already harvested fully ripe, carefully selected, perfectly healthy grapes from the Ried Spiegel vineyard!

At the same time, we receive ideal fresh grapes for our light Grüner Veltliners and popular rosés from a wide variety of vineyards around Langenlois. Coordinating the harvest in the press house is like working on a patchwork quilt: often, only a few crates from small but well-tended plots are delivered and then wait for “their equals.”  All four pneumatic presses are in use to gently bring together the many different origins. The goal is to produce fresh, fine, easy-to-drink wines that already reflect our region and the character of the vines on the palate.

The ‘bustling’ activity in and around Langenlois also delights the hearts of the many visitors. They share the joy of the ripe fruit and the high spirits of the people who have put all their skills to work for a year, in harmony with the often-capricious demands of nature. During these days, hope becomes certainty: our 2025 wines will be delicious and mature into elegant ambassadors of our Kamptal wine culture.
