Our wines

Pinot Noir

Reserve

2022

Medium carmine garnet with ochre reflections and a broad, lighter rim. Aromas of black heart cherries, fine wild berry preserve, a hint of nougat, and candied orange zest. Juicy and velvety on the palate, with a red berry texture, ripe, silky tannins, and fresh acidity. Well developed, multifaceted, and an approachable, versatile companion to a wide range of dishes.

Falstaff Wine Guide 2026/27

This Blauburgunder was made with the ripest Pinot Noir grapes, especially from the top vineyards Dechant and Käferberg.

The Dechant vineyard site is comprised of calcareous loess-clay soil terraces on the south-east slope. On the higher terraces is the clay with ancient rock and gravel deposits. Usually strict selection is necessary in wet vintages in order to obtain first-class grapes.

The Käferberg vineyard site is located at the upper end of an eastern slope at about 300 metres above sea level – in the north of the town of Langenlois. Preserved calcareous, clayey marine deposits are found there.
This soil is similar to that of the famous Château Petrus in Pomerol, and produces an extremely dense wine. The top layer is partly of sand and partly of primary rock.

The 2022 vintage
Conditions in September 2022, right at the beginning of harvest, seemed relatively favourable for the Kamptal vintners: With the exception of a dry first quarter, our region had been spoiled with well-distributed rainfalls as well as many sunny hours. Our vineyards were looking healthy and still full of vitality. There had hardly been any frost and we only had suffered minor hail damage on Käferberg and Lamm, which happened early in summer and thus reduced the quantity but not the quality of the grapes. Ripeness was about a week ahead of 2021, but did start still a good deal later than in warm years such as 2017, 2018 and 2019. The...

Maturation

The wine matured predominantly in 300 liters Austrian oak casks (1st and 2nd fillings) for 18 months. Assemblage is made from selected barrels according to the prospective aging potential of their content. With appropriate cellaring this wine should keep another decade or longer.
