‘Possibly the best to date.’ Stuart Pigott on Bründlmayer 2024/25:
In Part 2 of his in-depth report on the Kamptal (“The Cool North of the Danube”), the renowned German specialist journalist of international standing Stuart Pigott expresses his surprise at the way in which many of his colleagues take Bründlmayer for granted as “nobody in the Kamptal can show such a consistent long-term track record of high quality than the Bründlmayer family. And the current collection of wines, which were tasted at the winery and are presented here in full, is possibly the best to date.”
Pigott names the Grüner Veltliner Ried Loiserberg 1ÖTW 2025 as his personal favourite, “with its magnificent mountain freshness”. He is also particularly enthusiastic about the sparkling wines. On the Bründlmayer Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019, he says: “This could very well be Austria’s finest sparkling wine”

SPARKLING SEKT
Bründlmayer Niederösterreich Sekt Reserve Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut NV - 12% / A very serious Blanc de Blans Extra Brut that will delight afficianodos of this style in Champagne. Really racy with subtle notes of oyster shell and brioche. Very focused finish with serious crystaline minerality. A pure Chardonnay cuvée based on 2016 vintage, plus 25% reserve wine from 2014. Disgorged in November 2025. 95 (SP)
Bründlmayer Niederösterreich Sekt Reserve Blanc de Noirs Extra Brut 2019 - 12% / This might well be the best sparkling wine from Austria with a great combination of freshness, creaminess and weight. Terrific interplay of crisp acidity and textural complexity. Very long finish with a serious mineral drive. The third vintage of this 100% Pinot Noir that was disgorged in November 2025 after five years on the lees. 97 (SP)
2025 GRÜNER VELTLINER
Bründlmayer Kamptal Grüner Veltliner Ried Loiserberg 1ÖTW 2025 - 12.5% / I love this mountain wine that combines pristine Alpine qualities with a wonderful herb complexity, even a touch of nettles. So vivid and so deep at the very long finish. 95 (SP)
2024 GRÜNER VELTLINER
Bründlmayer Kamptal Grüner Veltliner Ried Käferberg 2024 - 13% / This smells like a meadow at the end of a hot dry summer, which is excatly what 2024 was until the harvest rain arrived. Powerful and broad-shouldered with a major tannin structure. Very long with a compact finish that suggests this has a great future. 96 (SP)
Bründlmayer Kamptal Grüner Veltliner Ried Lamm 2024 - 13% / What a dark and daring wine! Very cool for such a hot and dry vintage and that gives it a wonderful tension on the full-bodied, yet super-bright palate. Then, the wine spirals into a deep well of earthy complexity within complexity, within complexity. Vinified in well-used 300 liter oak casks. 98 (SP)
Bründlmayer Kamptal Grüner Veltliner Ried Spiegel Vincent 2024 - 13% / Elegant and creamy with a structure that’s beautifully balanced, sliding gracefully over your palate with a fascinating textural complexity. Very long, beautifully proortioned finish. 97 (SP)
2025 Dry Riesling
Bründlmayer Kamptal Riesling Ried Steinmassl 1ÖTW 2025 - 12.5% / Welcome to the Alpine meadows of Riesling! Cool, crisp and structured with a lot of wild herb complexity. So much energy and a little touch of darkness make this a fascinating wine with a very long finish. 95 (SP)
Bründlmayer Kamptal Riesling Ried Heiligenstein 1ÖTW 2025 - 13% / Seriously concentrated and no less elegant, this is a great dry Riesling by any standard. Here are all the wild herbs you could ever want! Giant freshness at the super-racy finish. This is the only Riesling from the Heiligenstein from Bründlmayer in 2025. 96 (SP)
2024 DRY RIESLING
Bründlmayer Kamptal Riesling Ried Heiligenstein Alte Reben 1ÖTW 2024 - 13% / So very cool, almost minty coolness for a wine from a very warm and dry vintage! However, the tingling stony mineralty is the most striking thing about this remarkable wine. Electric energy at the super-focused, positively austere finish. From vines going back to 1923, a good proportion of which are ungrafted. 98 (SP)
