Wine Diary
Harvest 2024 completed with Käferberg and Heiligenstein
It's done! Yesterday, after a thorough selection with the finest Grüner Veltliner grapes from Käferberg and Riesling from the oldest vineyard in the middle of Heiligenstein we finished the 2024 harvest. A challenging wine year comes to a happy end.
And once again, the wines with their own unique character will ultimately provide wine lovers with the best information about their origin and genesis. While the dramatic events in our wine country in 2024 will soon fade from public memory, they will leave their mark on the wine and contribute to the individual expression of each vineyard and variety. Our very own regional history is also brought to mind through the ages when we enjoy wine, and the cellars hold an exciting collection of such charming 'narrators'.
A brief summary of the vintage will follow in the next entry. Here just a small note on this: we can be satisfied with many decisions, such as the early start to the harvest and the interruptions to regenerate, but also with the perseverance, patience and precision of our team. The fact that 2024 brought low yields, especially for the classic Veltliner and in some top sites, is only partly due to the weather and the uncompromising selection and was already evident in the fruit set. Willi Bründlmayer's comment in this regard sounds comforting: “The vineyards seem to have their own rhythm, sometimes a year seems as if nature is taking a deep breath, only to bloom all the more lushly the following year”.
