Wine Diary
Spicy Grüner Veltliner, ripe Riesling and a fine Cabernet!
After a few picture-book autumn days, the weather has clouded over a little in the meantime with a mild south-westerly current. A few showers will not slow us down, but the highly ripe grapes must now be selected more carefully from day to day in order to achieve optimum quality. This takes a lot of time and patience and reduces the expected total quantity. We are currently focusing on the remaining Riesling and Grüner Veltliner grapes in the middle terraces.
Yesterday we had a lot of fun with our Cabernet Franc! This gives us hope for continuity and a worthy successor to the much-praised, current 2019 and the 2022, which is still maturing. The grapes come from the Lyra vineyard planted by Willi Bründlmayer over 30 years ago in the lower terraces of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein. The young winemaker had decided to try blue grapes in the warmest part of the famous Riesling vineyard in consideration of the climate change that was already noticeable at the time.
