Our wines

Chardonnay Auslese

2009

Our Chardonnay is growing mainly on „Spiegel“, „Steinmassel“ and „Loiser Berg“. Some of the vines are trained in a Lyre trellis system (Steinmassel), the others in a classic “Guyot method” planted in a density of 5.000 to 6.000 plants per hectare.

In 1986 Willi Bründlmayer had won a tasting of „the world best Chardonnays“ (Veronelli tasting in Franciacorta), quite to his own surprise as his Chardonnay had been “smuggled in” by a German journalist as a kind of “pirate”. However, this can be seen as a kind of kick off to the worldwide interest in Bründlmayer wines.

In 2009 during harvest we had a thunderstorm with a sudden drop of temperature and intensive rainfall followed by another sunny week. While grapes were drying up there was short period of ideal conditions for botrytis, infecting only some berries in the part of bunches. We decided to do another selection and vinified this long-lived elegant Auslese. It has a touch of Noble-rot yet at the same time varietal character prevails.
