2024

1ÖTW Erste Lage Kamptal DAC

Pale yellow-green in color with silver reflections. A mineral-driven bouquet of vineyard peach, apricots, and blossom honey, with smoky nuances, hints of orange and saffron underneath; a complex and multifaceted aroma profile.Taut and focused on the palate, with yellow tropical fruit, good complexity, and a layered acidity. A firm structure, dark, salt-tinged minerality, vineyard peach on the finish, and a spicy aftertaste. It lingers well, making it a lively companion for food, with great potential for further development.

Peter Moser, Falstaff Wine Guide 2026/2027

Our most important vineyard, and historically the most renowned site in the Langenloiser region, is the Zöbinger Heiligenstein. Beginning in the 1920s, dry-stone terraces were built by hand across parts of the vineyard. Old Riesling vines, propagated from the original autochthonous Heiligenstein plant material, form the backbone of this exceptional wine. The vines have an average age of 45 years, with the oldest reaching up to 90 years.

As the vines mature, their yields naturally decline, producing fewer and smaller bunches while developing an extensive, deep-rooted system. This broad and deeply penetrating root network is able to nourish the limited crop exceptionally well, resulting in wines of remarkable concentration, ripeness, and complexity.

The 2024 vintage
The winter of 2023/24 was mild and relatively wet. Spring lived up to its name at the beginning and favored early budding with regular rainfall which further encouraged vegetation. This was followed by the proverbial, moody April: after a summery first half, the weather turned and a cool northerly current made for almost wintry days and nights. Late frosts in the lowlands were the logical consequence and this time led to some yield losses in the east of Langenlois, e.g. at Kammerner Lamm, while vineyards in the south and west of Langenlois, that we would normally be more concerned about, were largely spared. The cold shock seemed to have...

Maturation

We ferment the must in stainless steel at a temperature of 15-20° Celsius.

Food pairing recommendation

An excellent food companion with grilled fish, roast or fried chicken, salted or smoked meats  (but without sauerkraut!), Wiener schnitzel, or as an alternative to red wine with roast duck or goose. It’s also ideally suited to many hearty exotic dishes . After some years of maturing, it can be recommended for fish with a variety of sauces - such as beurre blanc or Riesling cream sauce.
