All grapes – all stars!

August 30, 2024

Falstaff, Vinaria & Gault Millau

All Austrian wine guides with winemaker rankings have once again awarded Weingut Bründlmayer the full 5 stars/grape count!

We are very pleased about the great recognition of our work in Austria's wine scene! After all, it is the sum of all achievements, all wines over many years, that is assessed in a “winegrower ranking”. For Bründlmayer as an “all-rounder” working in all sectors (white, red, sweet and sparkling wines), a vintage is only completely successful when each individual wine lives up to its name. This seems to be once more accomplished, reading Peter Moser’s commentary in the latest Falstaff Wine Guide: “Almost every wine (...) has the potential to be the best in its category.”

A personal pick of the 2022 vintage:

Wine is always a matter of taste, and its appreciation often depends on the moment. Winegrowers are usually reluctant to name their favourite wines from their own estate (one hears: “I don't want to have to choose between my children either”). And yet you can always be told a particular ‘darling’, you just have to ask for it in a very informal way:

We started with Edwige Bründlmayer and asked, “Which wine from our range (apart from Bründlmayer Brut Rosé) has particularly caught your eye recently?

Edwige: “I'm really in love with the Grüner Veltliner Käferberg 2022, which is both graceful and muscular. It's not often that a wine draws attention to itself with every sip and leaves you with a feeling of weightlessness.”

Ms. Bründlmayer is not alone in this opinion: Viktor Siegl noticed early on that Käferberg 2022 (*****Sterne) was on top form. In the summer edition of À La Carte magazine, editor-in-chief Willi Balanjuk ranked it 2nd in the 2022 Grand Cru Reserves, just behind Bründlmayer Lamm, with 96+ points, while Falstaff awarded it an excellent 95 points.
