Wine Diary
Ready for Flowering
The fruit sets are developing well so far, and we have to wait only a few more days until blossoming starts. Despite the challenging times, our vineyards present themselves in their best shape, healthy and well-tended. So far, we also have been spared late frost and hail damage.
Although it has been raining occasionally during the recent weeks, we do welcome more precipitation, since we are still quite below average.
Work in the vineyards is intense. Besides organic plant protection, removing excessive shoots from the vines is part of the laborious daily routine. Moreover, all shoots positioned too low on the vine and all their neighboring latent buds also have to be picked and brushed off properly. Not only will this direct the energy flow upwards, it also stops downy mildew (Peronospora) spreading from the soil to the canopy and fruit settings.
We are looking forward to blossoming vineyards and hope for the best weather conditions!
