Wine Diary
„Eight days a week!“
During this year’s harvest period the sun prefers to shine on week-ends & holidays! Therefor the next days will be dedicated to picking again. Whether this will be the last harvesting weekend of the season, no one might be able to tell. Our pickers and cellar team have just great stamina:
Standing in our small “press lounge” (that’s where you are protected but have a good overview on whats going on at the presses) sipping coffee, and breeding over the harvest plan, they look just like slightly troubled boxers. And the plan is still looking kind of a patch work.
For some days we have been able to fully concentrate on our “Erste Lagen” (first growth) vineyards: „Berg Vogelsang“, „Loiser Berg“ and „Spiegel“. Pinots are in (Vincent’s Grüner on „Spiegel“ still has to wait). Also parts of Steinmassel and Heiligenstein will stay out for somemore time. Today we are in the Lamm vineyard. 2015 showed, that as soon as a good physiological ripeness has been reached, it might be more appropriate in some years to harvest rather sooner than later, as long as you do not Equate “great wines” with big wines.
For now the weather should stay fine. As most of the growers have already finished harvest, we were able to reinforce our picking teams – However, we will definitely not celebrate our end of harvest meal as early as in 2015!
