Wine Diary
Fine Pinot Gris
Perfectly healthy and ripe Pinot Gris from our ‘Spiegel’ vineyard is a sight to warm a grower's heart! The major part of it will find its place in the cuvée “Grau- & Weißburgunder Spiegel.” The remaining grapes have been sorted, destemmed and ‘laid on the mash’ into a neutral wooden fermentation vat. There they will ferment on the skins like red grapes before the “raw” young wine will be allowed to mature in barrels. If all goes well, after 2016 and 2019, we will be happy to release our third “Rawländer” vintage.
Main harvest may begin
After some cool and windy days with only a few intermittent showers, “late summer” has returned. The window of opportunity for finest Sekt base wines has already closed. While harvesting Zweigelt for Rosé wines, we also expect the first lighter Grüner Veltliner grapes to be brought in today. And so, after two weeks of work, we find ourselves on the eve of the main harvest!
