Ripe Achievement under the Full Moon
Highly concentrated grapes from Sauberg have finally been brought in after harsh selection. Though the sun was shining now and then, the temperature was frosty. What a lovely combination!
We harvested the last grapes during the full moon on December 17th by noon exactly. We succeeded in getting about 20% of the material shriveled and dry! By now it is officially confirmed, we have a barrel of wonderful must for Chardonnay TBA. It is unclear whether this is due to the magic of the moon, fascinating men and nature for ages. However, happiness and also relief can be felt all around the winery. It tells its own tale that the arrival of the last grapes into the cellar coincided with the release of a first filling of “Grüner Veltliner Leicht + Trocken 2013” – what a long picking period!
This was a long and difficult, a thrilling and finally a truly satisfying harvest. Quantities of Grüner Veltliner might leave something to be desired, but excellent quality red, white and sweet wines are fermenting or already maturing in our cellar.
Harvesting during winter time is hard work as will be cutting the lignified vines, monotonous and at the same time challenging work for skilled people. For now we are looking forward to some peaceful holidays – who would have thought that our winery’s Christmas lunch on Friday would also turn out to be an end of harvest celebration?
The party will be all the more joyful – A great hearty thanks to all who contributed in the vineyards, in the cellar, and in the office giving this vintage a chance to become legendary.
A merry festive season to all our friends and business partners and a Happy New Year
