Ried Loiserberg

Grüner Veltliner

2024

Kamptal DAC, Erste Lage ÖTW

Apple, fresh pears and hay flowers, rich and solid, though still somewhat reduced but truly pithy, some pome fruit in the “umami” mid palate, well balanced by vibrant acidity, promising.

This wine derives from a vineyard on the “Loiserberg” wherein one also finds the site “Berg Vogelsang”. The difference is that the Grüner Veltliner from “Loiserberg” grows on a south to southeast facing slope, which is less exposed to the winds. The soil stems from primary rock geologically defined as zoisite-amphibolite, which is decomposing granite consisting of gneiss, mica-schist, and some clay and loess.

This was followed by the proverbial, moody April: after a summery first half, the weather turned and a cool northerly current made for almost wintry days and nights. Late frosts in the lowlands were the logical consequence and this time led to some yield losses in the east of Langenlois, e.g. at Kammerner Lamm, while vineyards in the south and west of Langenlois, that we would normally be more concerned about, were largely spared. The cold shock seemed to have...
