Chopping barrels and composting
January 22, 2021
Immediately after harvest we started to prepare our organic fertilizer. A pretty example of completed natural cycles are wooden fermentation vats that have served their time: made of untreated sturdy acacia, they are chopped and used as the structural part in the compost of mainly cow manure and grape pomace in order to be brought out into the vineyards the following year. Moreover, a portion of the wood chips is used just like bark mulch to cover the soil and offer protection against evaporation and erosion. It is nice to observe these re-cyclic processes in nature.
