Wine Diary

Steinmassl, too, has been secured

October 16, 2020

This week, wind and weather have forced us several times to take short breaks. The rain is a nuisance and may delay harvest, however, the cool and windy weather also prevents Botrytis from creeping in. As a matter of fact, we are truly happy, that we managed to bring in grapes in perfect ripeness for classic Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from the stony, wind-exposed sites of “Langenloiser Berg Vogelsang” and “Langenloiser Steinmassl”!

Harvest is hard and really no fun these days, but it gets us fine quantities for the lighter Grüner Veltliners. The overall picture of this Vintage 2020 is emerging more and more clearly. It seems to be finally once again a traditional one: wines will be fresh, spicy and not too heavy, as was common in the old days in the Kamptal.
