Our wines

Ried Berg Vogelsang Grüner Veltliner

2024

Kamptal DAC

Bouquet of pome fruit, accompanied by hints of citrus as well as flowery and spicy tones (white flowers, yeast). Crisp, dry, medium bodied and nicely balanced; opens up in the glass and offers more fragrant fruit reminiscent fresh cut apples and pears, hints of herbs, with a pleasantly salivating mineral finish. A rare Grüner (growing) on the rocks!

The 2024 vintage
The winter of 2023/24 was mild and relatively wet. Spring lived up to its name at the beginning and favored early budding with regular rainfall which further encouraged vegetation. This was followed by the proverbial, moody April: after a summery first half, the weather turned and a cool northerly current made for almost wintry days and nights. Late frosts in the lowlands were the logical consequence and this time led to some yield losses in the east of Langenlois, e.g. at Kammerner Lamm, while vineyards in the south and west of Langenlois, that we would normally be more concerned about, were largely spared. The cold shock seemed to have...

Maturation

The grapes are harvested relatively late, but for the classic Veltliner style they are fully ripe, though not overripe. The wine is fermented in stainless steel at semi-cool temperatures between 15 to 20°C and then, depending on the vintage, it is aged for several weeks either in stainless steel tanks or in larger wooden casks on the lees for further maturation. To preserve the fruit, this Grüner Veltliner is bottled relatively early each year, precisely at the moment when the acidity has lost its sharp aggressiveness.

Food pairing recommendation

Like its sibling Berg Loiserberg, Grüner Veltliner Berg Vogelsang is extremely versatile. It pairs well with cold appetizers, seafood, smoked fish, fresh cheeses, baked or roasted chicken, veal or pork schnitzel, Vietnamese cuisine, wok dishes, sushi and more.
