Kick-off to the 2024 harvest
St Laurent for the Brut Rosé!
As if we had ordered it, nature gave us a first cool autumnal night to kick off the 2024 harvest! Since yesterday, we have been picking healthy grapes for our sparkling base wines.
We traditionally start with St. Laurent from the cooler sites on the Steinberg plateau (formerly Ladner), which borders the Steinmassl and Käferberg vineyards.
St Laurent, a relative of Pinot Noir, produces particularly fresh, light and fragrant wines with aromas reminiscent of red berries such as wild cherry and red currant. Together with the fruity, charming Zweigelt and the noble Pinot Noir, it forms the base wine for the Bründlmayer Brut Rose Reserve. The fresh grapes are meticulously selected in the vineyard and before placing them in the harvest box. In the cellar, the whole grapes are emptied into the wine press. Careful and particularly slow pressing over several hours is the first requirement for the finest must. The pressure of the wine press should at most reach the strength of a firm handshake.
In glorious weather, we are delighted with the good start to the harvest!
An early year with lots of charm
Even if the early ripeness of the grapes is reminiscent of the hot 2018 vintage, we can now assume that this year's vintage will be fresh and elegant thanks to the well-distributed rainfall in recent months.
