Summery early autumn
Meteorological autumn has begun, but this summer is not giving way so easily. The ripening process is accelerating noticeably. This calls for a flexible harvest schedule and swift, focused work both in the vineyards and in the cellar.
The last grapes for sparkling base wine arrived yesterday at the same time as the first crates of light, dry Grüner Veltliner. ‘Small in quantity, but very good in quality’ is the initial verdict, and similar results are to be expected for the rest of the harvest. The grapes of the Burgundy varieties are mostly light and ‘loose berried’, with many small berries containing little juice. What juice there is, however, packs a punch. The quality of the musts gives us cause for optimism.
Zweigelt for the popular rosé wine is now also on the agenda. The transition to the main harvest is thus taking place almost seamlessly.
